Behind The Scenes At The NHL Draft
The NHL Draft in Las Vegas has come and gone and it was a blast.
I thought I would share some of the stuff I saw while in Las Vegas and give a behind-the-scenes look at what happens during the draft.
First of all, The Sphere is insane.
This photo was taken from the "Special People Media" section, where the media with assigned seats sit. The sheer size of the screen and the interior is hard to comprehend. Even when you walk by The Sphere from the outside, it's huge, but inside, it's on a different level.
The media workroom was on the fifth floor. There was a scramble for seats and a very much "every man for himself" approach. There are plenty of TVs to watch the draft, but you'd hear the picks about 30 seconds before they are on TV. They have several podiums for the draft picks to come in and have their first availability after getting drafted.
After getting drafted, players are shuttled through a carwash of different things. They take their draft photos, meet the media, and go through many interviews with their old and new teams. It's a whirlwind for players and everyone involved, especially if a team has multiple picks near each other. It's an orchestrated chaos.
Here is my view of when Macklin Celebrini was drafted. I can confirm that I was not yelling during the broadcast.
If you've never been to Vegas before, time has no meaning. Day, night. If you are hungry, there is something open to eat, so eat. If you want a drink, they've got you covered. Here are a few of my favorite things I ate/drank in Vegas.
Thank you to everyone who supported me and allowed me to go to Vegas to experience and cover the San Jose Sharks' first-ever number 1 overall pick.
Now, we should turn our attention to that Vegas 2025 pick.
We will start to break down some of the newest San Jose Sharks soon!
