Burning Questions For the 2025-26 Season: Tyler Toffoli

With the 2025-26 season now in sight, the plan is to address the burning questions surrounding every player on the roster (or competing for a roster spot). These questions are focused on how the player is expected to contribute to the Sharks this season and what their role will be.

Tyler Toffoli signed a 4-year contract worth $24 million ($6 million AAV) last offseason to settle down after playing for about 45 teams over the past few seasons (7 different teams from 2020-2024). Toffoli had an instant impact for a San Jose Sharks team in need of more offense. He finished first in goals with 30 and third in points with 54.

Toffoli brought veteran leadership to Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith as they navigated their first full season in the NHL. He enters the season with a no-trade clause and three years left on his deal.

Burning Question

Is it fair to just pencil in another 25-30 goals for Toffoli?

Yes.

Easiest preview ever.

Toffoli is going to play top six minutes with either Michael Misa or Macklin Celebrini. He's a mainstay on the top power play, and even with the addition of professional goal scorer, Jeff Skinner, Toffoli is the veteran guy. It would take an almost monumental drop off for Toffoli not to approach 30 goals this season.

While Celebrini and Smith will start to take up more oxygen in the offense, this should open up crafty veteran Toffoli to do what he does best—score from up close.

Expectations

Tyler Toffoli is a walking 25 goals every year he plays in the league. As the offense continues to take steps this year, he helps to provide a steady baseline for the young players to work off. With William Eklund setting up plays behind the net, Toffoli should continue to be the beneficiary of the young guns' work throughout the year.
