Haoxi Wang vs Kingston 10/3/2025

Haoxi Wang was a bit of a surprise when the San Jose Sharks drafted him 33rd overall in this summer's draft. Wang is a newcomer to hockey, but oozes potential. His 6'6" frame and smooth skating are hard for any coach not to think about what he could turn into. Wang was sent back to the OHL to play with the Oshawa Generals this season before he heads off to the NCAA to play with Boston University.

Wang's stat line in the Generals' 5-2 loss to the Kingston Frontenacs on Friday, October 3, 2025:

0 goals, 0 assists, 4 SOG, 2 PIM

Three observations from Wang's performance:

A Major Step In Confidence

After watching Wang last season, his confidence with and without the puck has grown by leaps and bounds. He was more decisive with his decisions, especially with the puck, and the offense is starting to flourish as a result. Last year, Wang was quick to defer to his partner and was very focused on being the last man back. This year, he is pushing for offense and taking the puck into his own hands more and more.

Wang transition

No one is going to confuse Wang for Luca Cagnoni, but he has the confidence in his puck handling to work through four players and get the puck to the net towards a streaking forward.
