Jeff Skinner Replacement Options

Jeff Skinner Replacement Options

Jeff Skinner left Thursday's game against the Calgary Flames after two minutes with a lower-body injury. While it's too early to speculate on the length of the injury, it's safe to say Sinner will be out for a while.

With Skinner and Michael Misa both out, the Sharks will need to look for a replacement that can add some more scoring on the third line to play with Collin Graf and Ty Dellandrea. While the Sharks could bring up players like Zack Ostapchuk or Patrick Giles, it would be more likely to bring in a player who can fill Skinner's roleβ€”a third-line scoring winger who can play on the power play.

Some potential San Jose Barracuda options:

Cam Lund
9 games played: 1 goal, 8 assists, 16 SOG

Cam Lund missed the last few games with an injury after taking a puck to the face late in a game against the Calgary Wranglers last week. Assuming he is close to returning, he would make sense for the Sharks to call up. Lund played on the third line last season in his limited time with the San Jose Sharks and added two goals in 11 games.

Lund has been more of a setup guy with the Barracuda this year, but Lund possesses a wicked shot for a Sharks team that could use a shot in the arm offensively. Lund played 11:30 last season, so he should be able to fill in on Skinner's 13 minutes a night that he's playing.

Igor Chernyshov
13 games played: 6 goals, 4 assists, 29 SOG

The Fireworks Factory has been on fire lately. He had his first career hat trick in the Barracudas' 7-0 win.

While only 19, Chernyshov has professional hockey experience, having played over 30 games in the KHL during his draft year. He played a bottom-six role with Dynamo Moskva and excelled in it. Chernyshov is off to a great start with the Barracuda, with six goals, and offers the potential of a two-way game compared to the others on this list.

Quentin Musty
13 games played: 3 goals, 7 assists, 25 SOG

If you are looking for someone who plays a role most resembling Jeff Skinner's, Musty is your guy.

Musty's ability to score in multiple ways could be a valuable asset for a team struggling to score at the moment. Musty has an incredible shot that has always been on display throughout his career, but he's been diversifying his scoring with more greasy, up-close goals.

Quentin Musty vs Calgary 11/6
Former 1st round pick Quentin Musty is starting his rookie campaign in the American Hockey League with the San Jose Barracuda. While Musty did get a handful of games last season with the Cuda at the end of the regular season and playoffs, Musty is now a centerpiece of the

Musty's playmaking and transition game would be huge additions to the third line, which has seen its offense dry up with Misa and Skinner on the shelf. Musty's creativity and ability to draw defenders would help the second power play unit. So far, with the Barracuda, he's been the one driving play the most of the three.

While the Sharks will most likely take the safe option of a player like Ostapchuk or Giles, if they want to continue embracing #TheFutureIsTeal, these players would provide a taste of that.
