Prospect Three Stars of the Week 10/9-10/15
It's great to have hockey back in full force, with all of the Sharks' prospects (except the ECHL) back in action.
A few notes to keep an eye on.
There is no news on Quentin Musty's (Sudbury, OHL) standoff. The hope is that something can be resolved soon, as Musty needs to play games.
Mattias Havelid (Linkoping, SHL) will be out 2-3 weeks with an injury.
Here are some standout performances from the past week for the San Jose Sharks prospects.
Third Star of the Week
Nate Misskey, Victoria Royals
2 games, 3 goals, 1 assist, 8 SOG
Misskey had a solid weekend against Wenatchee, scoring four points in two games, including two power play goals and a shorthanded tally.
Misskey is quietly 9th in the WHL in scoring among defensemen and looks to have secured the role of Victoria's top defenseman. His defensive game has been solid, but like former Royal Gannon Laroque, the offense is blossoming after being drafted.
Since Misskey was an overager in this draft, it could be a one-and-done at Victoria and play professional hockey next season.
Next game: Oct 18 vs Prince Albert
Second Star of the Week
Filip Bystedt, San Jose Barracuda
2 games, 1 goal, 2 assists, 3 SOG
It's another week, and Filip Bystedt claims another spot. While it could have been a better weekend for Bystedt if he had finished off a two-on-one short-handed chance, Bystedt has established himself on the Barracuda.
Bystedt's ability to find quiet ice was on display on Sunday as Tristen Robins (also worthy of a mention in this article) pushed the pace, and Bystedt got open.
Bystedt has been playing in all situations for the Barracuda and has earned penalty killing time and power play time. It seems he is getting the William Eklund treatment of spending the entire season in the AHL and making the Sharks out of camp next year.
Bytsedt will be pushing to lead the Barracuda in many categories this season and is off to a great start.
Next game: Oct 19 vs Iowa
First Star of the Week
Sam Dickinson, London Knights
3 games, 4 goals, 1 assist, 19 SOG
What a week for Sam Dickinson. After breaking down his adventurous game against Brampton, Dickinson saw reinforcements arrive for the London Knights, and his production increased.
It seems that Dickinson has been trying to establish his offensive game since returning to the OHL, and it has been coming in spades. His defensive game has always been there, and flashes of his offense were seen last season, but it feels like he is taking a huge leap in the ozone.
This starts with Dickinson's transition game, which has been on display while the Knights were shorthanded and so many players were in NHL training camps. Dickinson's skating has been a massive asset, and he is applying it while also working on his decision-making.
While the shots on goal fell unsustainable, Dickinson's production isn't. This could be the start of a monster season for Sam Dickinson.
Next game: Oct 18 vs Saginaw
