Three Stars of the Week 10/23 - 10/29
The San Jose Barracuda are a wagon, and it's hard not to reward players playing well for this team. Ethan Cardwell made his NHL debut on Tuesday night after one of the best effort plays of the season on Friday for the Barracuda.
A few notes on players:
Nate Misskey has missed the last few games for Victoria
Reese Laubach missed Saturday's game for Penn State
UPDATE: Quentin Musty has returned to Sudbury and is expected to make his season debut this weekend.
Third Star of the Week
Luca Cagnoni, San Jose Barracuda
2 games, 2 goals, 1 assist, 3 SOG
Noted wagon, San Jose Barracuda, have been getting contributions from several players, young and old, and one of their youngest players, Luca Cagnoni, has been an absolute monster to start his professional career.
Luca Cagnoni currently leads all defensemen in the AHL in points (7) and goals (4) and has given the Barracuda more depth on the blueline than they've had in years. Last season, Leon Gwanke led the team in goals for a defenseman with 8, and Cagnoni could legitimately challenge Tim Heed and Nick DeSimone's record of 14 goals for a defenseman.
The Cagnoni Hive has been buzzing since the preseason, and it looks like he is just getting started for the Barracuda.
Next game: Oct 30 vs Coachella Valley
Second Star of the Week
Collin Graf, San Jose Barracuda
2 games, 5 assists, 3 SOG
Collin Graf has quickly established himself as one of the essential pieces of the San Jose Barracuda offense.
His quickness and work ethic make the Andrew Poturalski goal happen. He steals the puck, finds some open ice, and then passes it to Poturalski for the goal.
Starting the season on the Barracuda was the right move for the Sharks and Graf as he can prepare to be a staple in the middle six of the Sharks lineup for the next few seasons.
Next game: Oct 30 vs Coachella Valley
First Star of the Week
Sam Dickinson, London Knights
3 games, 2 goals, 5 assists, 14 SOG
Sam Dickinson was named the OHL Player of the Week and the first two-time First Star of the Week on The Reef. What a week!
Dickinson scored the game-winning goal in overtime and is now second among defensemen in points with 15 in 10 games and first in points per game with 1.5. With London getting all its pieces back, Dickinson is looking more and more comfortable now.
Dickinson's start to the season has been great, and there is no reason for it to slow down. Dickinson is playing a ton of minutes on a great team, and doing it while playing three games in three days is impressive. Dickinson could be the Sharks' next version of Brent Burns, who must be dragged out of the lineup.
Next game: Nov 1 vs Sault Ste. Marie
