Three Stars of the Week 10/30 - 11/5
The San Jose Sharks have been playing some of their best hockey in a while the last week and the prospects have been doing just as well. Quentin Musty is back from his holdout, Sam Dickinson has been dominating the OHL, and the WHL kids are off to great starts.
While the wagon hit a pothole in Iowa this weekend, it's hard to not feel great about the direction of the Sharks organization and where the prospect pool is heading.
Third Star of the Week
Will Smith, San Jose Sharks
3 games, 2 goals, 1 assist, 4 SOG
Will Smith's game has started to round into form. After a slow start over the first few weeks, Smith has started to show more and more flashes of why the Sharks drafted him 4th overall. His playmaking and shot are special and it was on display over the past week.
Tuesday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets was easily his best game in the NHL. Things appear to be slowing down for Smith and he is learning what he can and cannot do at the NHL level. This is a great sign for the Sharks after the clamoring to send Smith down to the AHL.
While there will still be the development days for Smith (expect one on either Sunday or Monday) you can see that he is getting better with each game.
Second Star of the Week
Quentin Musty, Sudbury Wolves
3 games, 2 goals, 2 assists, 8 SOG
After missing about a month while awaiting a trade, Quentin Musty returned to the ice this weekend for the Sudbury Wolves and picked up right were he left off.
Quentin Musty has a flair for the dramatic and scored a big goal late in the third to tie things against Niagara. Expect Musty to try to make up for lost ground as he tries to solidify his spot on Team USA for the World Juniors.
First Star of the Week
Eric Pohlkamp, University of Denver
2 games, 2 goals, 2 assists, 7 SOG
Eric Pohlkamp transfered to Univeristy of Denver looking to play big time hockey. At this rate, Pohlkamp might be spending just one season in Denver before heading to San Jose.
Eric Pohlkamp already has four goals and five assists and is second among defenseman in points (Zeev Buium has 10 assists) for a juggernaut Denver and is looking to be a diamond in the rough for the Sharks after being drafted in the 5th round of the 2023 NHL draft.
