Three Stars of the Week 11/20 - 11/26

Three Stars of the Week 11/20 - 11/26

The week's big news is that star prospect Quentin Musty broke his hand and will be out indefinitely. After being sent back to the OHL from training camp, Musty sat out for a month, seeking a trade from the Sudbury Wolves. He reported at the end of October and played 11 games before his injury. Musty scored 8 goals and 12 assists in those games with 59 shots on goal.

Musty is expected to be out past the OHL trade deadline (January 10th), and it will be interesting to see if a team takes a flyer on Musty even with his injury status or if Musty spends his entire career with Sudbury. As a reminder, when Musty's OHL season ends, he can report to the AHL and play with the San Jose Barracuda. If Sudury misses the playoffs, their season will end on March 23, and Musty could play with the Barracuda immediately. If Sudbury makes the playoffs, Musty will have to wait to make the jump until after they are eliminated.

Other news:

Brandon Svoboda returned from his injury and posted two goals in his first game back.

Kasper Halttunen was suspended four games for a hit from behind. He can return on December 4th.

Leo Sahlin Wallenius is back in the J20 league with Växjö and should play a big role for Team Sweden at the upcoming World Junior Championships.

Third Star of the Week
Gabriel Carriere, San Jose Barracuda
1 game, 31/32 saves, .969 save %, .92 GAA

With Yaroslav Askarov playing in the NHL, the Barracuda called up Carriere to fill in behind Georgi Romanov. Many thought veteran Aaron Dell would get the call-up as the third goalie for the Barracuda and were surprised to see Carriere up from the ECHL, but Carriere was excellent in his game against the Toronto Marlies.

He stopped all but one shot in regulation and overtime and denied both shooters in a shootout as the San Jose Barracuda came from behind to win in Toronto. Carriere has posted a .930 save % in the ECHL with a 2.36 GAA in 8 games for the Wichita Thunder this season.

Second Star of the Week
Reese Laubach, Penn State Hockey
3 games, 2 goals, 3 assists, 10 SOG

In a game in which 16 goals were scored, Reese Laubach had a goal and 3 assists for Penn State, which lost 10-6 to Michigan.

Laubach is averaging a point per game to start the season for Penn State and continues to look like a solid depth piece for the San Jose Sharks organization.

First Star of the Week
Sam Dickinson, London Knights
3 games, 1 goal, 6 assists, 10 SOG

Sam Dickinson owns a spot in the weekly three stars and has been putting up insane numbers. He scored 6 points in London's 6-5 win over Saginaw

Dickinson has double the games in which he has scored at least three points (six total) than in which he didn't register a point (three total).
